Current In-Shelter Adoption Process (as of 2/7/2023)

Our staff and volunteers are fully vaccinated. We are no longer requiring people to wear masks. However, we respect everyone’s right to do what makes them comfortable.

Our current open hours are Thursdays 1pm – 5pm, Fridays 1pm – 5pm, Saturdays 12:30pm – 5pm, and Sundays 1pm – 5pm, for walk-ins as well as appointments. Holiday hours may vary. We are happily taking walk-ins as allowed by our shelter’s capacity. However, we HIGHLY suggest appointments, as potential adopters with an appointment will receive priority whenever shelter capacity is an issue.

As they become available for adoption, cats and kittens are posted on Petfinder, which feeds to our Available Cats page on this website. Please let us know who you’re interested in when you submit your application.

An approved Adoption Application is required to be invited to visit with the cats and kittens. Although you may fill out an application at the shelter, a pre-approved application will streamline your shelter experience.

If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten by appointment who is listed as available for in-shelter adoption on the Available Cats page, here’s how it works currently.

(Please note: If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten listed as available by “contactless” adoption, skip to the next section.)

1. Submit Application

Please complete an application for a specific cat or cats and submit to adopt@meowcatrescue.org

Again, please note: only select cats are available for in person meetings. Please read their adoption listing carefully to see if the cat in which you are interested is available for in-person meetings. If they are available as an in-person adoption it will state that in the first paragraph of their listing. Otherwise it will state that they are available by “contactless adoption”.

2. Schedule Appointment (if desired)

If, based on your application we believe you (and your family) to be a good fit for that cat or cats, an adoption counselor will call to ask or answer any questions that may arise. The adoption counselor will then schedule your appointment (Saturdays and Sundays during 1-5pm or Thursdays during 1-5pm) to meet and hopefully take home your kitty that same day!

As with our contactless adoption process, we are reviewing applications and scheduling appointments in the order we receive the requests. Please bear with us as we work out these new processes!

3. Finalize Adoption

At the shelter you will sign the contract, pay the adoption fee, and review the adoption packet with the Adoption Counselor.

FAQs on In-Shelter Scheduled Adoption Process

Contactless Adoption Process

  1. Submit Application

Download and complete the Cat Adoption Application and email it to adopt@meowcatrescue.org. There are two formats to choose from above – a PDF document and a Word document. Please include in the subject line of the email, the name of the cat(s) in whom you are interested.

If you are living in a place you do not own, you will need to provide proof of permission to own cats from your landlord or apartment complex. Please proactively provide this information at the time of, or shortly after, submitting your application to expedite the adoption process.

(Please note that we are currently only accepting applications from people interested in adopting specific cats or kittens that have been posted on our website or on Facebook). We will review the applications in the order they are received.

  2. Zoom Meeting with Adoption Counselor

Once your application has been reviewed we will schedule a Zoom meeting (video call) with you and an adoption counselor. We will review MEOW’s adoption policies with you at that time.

  3. Zoom Interview with Cat and Foster Family

We will then schedule a Zoom interview for you, the cat, and the foster family.

  4. Sign Contract

If all goes well and you are still interested in adopting the cat, we will send you our adoption contract and ask you to sign and initial the contract and email it back to us (preferably as a scanned document).

  5. Submit Adoption Fee

The adoption fee will now be due. You may either pay via PayPal Cart or Square by clicking below, or we can arrange to take a credit card over the phone.

  6. Pick Up Cat at Shelter

We will then schedule a time for you to pick up the cat at the shelter. The cat will be brought in a carrier to your car by a member of our shelter staff, along with our adoption packet.
